Nanoporous Mixed-Valence Crystals

 

Research:

The research project, in which I am involved, entails the study of microporous mixed-valence transition metal oxides. I synthesize new materials and try to understand their crystal structure changes in view of the evolution of their electro-magnetic properties.
We draw our model compounds from the MnO2 system; we intercalate the parent oxide with various species e.g., metal cations or even small organic molecules. The goal is to explore how new lattice topologies can be developed (under particular chemical composition) and modified to influence the underlying spin-charge-orbital order.
We employ X-ray and neutron diffraction to study nuclear and magnetic structures as well as bulk characterization methods, such as susceptibility or magneto-resistivity to take an insight into the correlated electron physics governing such systems.

 

Personal:

Except enjoying the company of friends, I like pursuing sports (e.g. jogging, swimming), as well as reading (newspapers/books) and listening to all kinds of music.
